Wembley, originally the Empire Stadium, was built as part of the 1924 British Empire Exhibition, a key event in the growth of Metro-Land, with 25 million people visiting this part of Middlesex to see the exhibition. 

The stadium went on to have a second life as a the national football stadium famous as the venue for the FA Cup Final every May. It was demolished in 2003 and replaced with a new stadium designed by Populous and Foster & Partners.
