This remarkable neo-gothic chapel originally belonged to an orphanage and home for the elderly, that was founded around 1840. The buildings were extended 15 years later and supplemented with the chapel. Later the complex would be further expanded to become a full-fledged hospital. The oldest part of the original orphanage was demolished, but the south wing, with the chapel attached to it, has been protected as a monument since 1985 and has also been partly restored. Due to the relocation of the hospital activities the entire site was vacated. Unfortunately, it did not take long for vandals to find their way to the chapel. I visited the chapel twice with an interval of only two weeks and even in that short time the abundant vandalism was quite striking…
