On my final trip to Riverside Hospital – a rare summer visit – I impressed by the way that the lush greenery of North Brother Island added a lively feeling to scenes which otherwise might just look cold and decrepit.  I explore this notion in my latest blog post on The Kingston Lounge.  Here, ferns sprout from the ground of the physical plant, while leafy vines hang from above.  Algae grows on the brick ovens at left, and on the asbestos of the pipe works at right.  Combined with the cool blue light filtering down from above, an otherwise stark and colorless industrial scene is transformed into a vibrant – if bizarre – modern ruins scene.

Print available here.

And don’t forget that all print on my SmugMug print server are 50% off through January 2nd with the code “Holiday2017″!

After a hiatus lasting over 3 years, my blog has relaunched with a new photoessay up about my final trip to North Brother Island – which was my only trip during the summer months!  And here in Brooklyn, we’re wishing it was summer right now.  But this new essay offers some glimpses into what the island looks like when even the NYC Parks Department is not allowed to set foot there – so go on over and take a look at the abandoned quarantine facility that housed “Typhoid” Mary Mallon!
