The stonework, decorative tiles and stained glass inside this abandoned monastery was absolutely incredible.  I feel so lucky to have been able to photograph this inspirational building.

Getting Smaller – 2018

Getting Smaller – 2018

I had been watching this location for some time and I chose the right moment to photograph it, since only a couple of weeks later it was completely boarded up.  I would imagine that the owners of this former restaurant received a good sum of money when they sold this property to developers and closed down their restaurant. I was amazed to see that almost everything was left behind at this location, the tables and chairs you see in this photograph as well as dishes and like most restaurants everything within the kitchen itself.

WET DOGS PLANT

WET DOGS PLANT

A friend asked me recently what my favorite location was so far. It would surely have to be one of the industrial sites I’ve visited and this one, an abandoned power plant, that was part of a large steel mill, was certainly among the top favorites.

Even though the steel mill closed in the beginning of 2012, this power plant had become obsolete years earlier, when it was replaced by a newer and more modern power plant. Some of the equipment was recuperated, but for the main part the plant was left to gather a thick layer of rust and dust. There are plans to turn the blast furnace on the site into a museum, so one can only hope that this beautiful vintage power plant will be upgraded to a museum aswel…

Urban locations often get the most peculiar names. Why this one was named “Wet Dogs Plant” is beyond me. Might it have something to do with the security guards and their dogs, that are still active on the grounds?

Spilling over the desk like a waterfall…Blueprints and wiring diagrams forgotten inside the office building of an abandoned factory that closed over a decade ago.

Back to the Drafting Board – 2018

Back to the Drafting Board – 2018

I arrived at this location with one warning, “watch your step as you enter the home”, I was expecting to see a hole in the floor as is common in these types of places.  As I approached the door I was greeted by my friend to a fit of laughter and he said “watch out, don’t step on it”, I looked down to see a dead opossum right where my next footstep would have been.  It had died not too long ago and it smelled awful, it was a sign of the types of conditions that were waiting inside this recently abandoned home.  This is probably the most disgusting abandoned house that I have ever been inside.  Extensive black mold throughout the entire house and rodents running around everywhere (some dead and some were alive), as well as rotten food (including meat) throughout the kitchen.

This houses’ fate has already been sealed as it is owned by a developer and will likely be replaced by an architecturally uninspiring and bland move in ready home.

This house was truly untouched, many possessions left behind including this drafting table complete with the final piece of artwork the owner was never able to finish.
